In pursuant to the objective of balanced regional development in the 12th FYP, the 20 districts across the country was granted with the common plan under the Common Minimum Infrastructure (CMI) development program to construct the bus terminal as one of the important urban infrastructure to improve the public transport services. Until now Dzongkhag doesn’t have designated bus terminal and is operated from the limited space of the town. Due to lack of designated space; the bus operators, regulatory bodies and district has been facing difficulties in delivering the effective public transport services. The public has been hunting after the ticket counters that are widely spread to different corners with the convenient of operators in the town; which was difficult for illiterate passengers to identify and earn the services on time.
With this new structure, it will facilitate the public transport services more efficiently. The terminal will be accommodating the maximum of seven buses which was officially inaugurated by His Excellency Foreign Minister(s) of Royal Government of Bhutan and Government of India on 29th April, 2022 virtually. Subsequently, the structure was handed over to Regional RSTA, Gelephu by Dzongkhag Administration on 30th April, 2022 to initiate the operation of services.
