The Sa-lhang Tendrel Ceremony for the construction of Potato Integrated Processing Facility in Gyaltsa Chumig Gewog, under Bumthang Dzongkhag took place yesterday.
This cutting-edge facility consolidates potato washing, drying, grading, and packaging operations under one roof, simplifying the process of delivering higher quality products to the market.
This marks a significant milestone for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, in collaboration with FCBL and Dzongkhag administration, as they strive to enhance the value chain and provide marketing platform. The introduction of online auction facilities from the facility is expected to alleviate the transportation and logistics burden for farmers and potato growers, who will no longer need to travel to distant markets like Phuntsholing.
The event was attended by officials from different stakeholders including CEO and team from FCBL HQ, Regional Director and team from FCBL from Gelephu, the representative from the DAMC from MoAL, Officials from Dzongkhag and Gewog and the contractor who shall execute the construction. Few public from nearby communities were also present during the ceremony..
The project is funded by the EU (PISRAFS) and is anticipated to be fully operational by this time next year.
