In honor of the 117th National Day celebration on 17th December 2024, Bumthang Dzongkhag has adopted the theme “Keeping the Bumthang Deyzhi Clean.” This initiative emphasizes the importance of cleanliness and environmental stewardship as a collective responsibility to preserve the beauty and sanctity of Bumthang Deyzhi.
Build-Up Program and Key Activities
As one of the build-up programs the mass cleaning campaign commenced with a series of coordinated cleaning activities across Bumthang Dzongkhag, involving participation from diverse stakeholders. The timeline and achievements of the initiative are as follows:
1. Start of Cleaning Activities (8th December 2024):
Cleaning efforts began with active participation from citizens across the four Gewogs, religious institutions, schools, regional offices, and the Dzongkhag administration. This preliminary phase involved cleaning public spaces, roads, riversides, and other communal areas.
2. Mass Cleaning Campaign (14th December 2024):
A mass cleaning drive was organized, where volunteers reached every nook and corner of Bumthang Deyzhi. This joint effort resulted in the collection of nearly 11 truckloads (DCM) of waste from various locations within the Dzongkhag.
The collected waste was properly deposited in the landfill site.
Sustaining the Initiative
Recognizing the importance of continuity, the Dzongkhag administration has planned to extend this cleaning campaign into a monthly program. This long-term commitment aims to achieve the overarching goal of maintaining a clean and beautiful Bumthang Deyzhi, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility among all residents.
Call for Individual Responsibility:
The Dzongkhag administration urges every individual to take personal responsibility for managing their waste. Proper waste disposal practices and collective vigilance will ensure that Bumthang remains clean and pristine for years to come. A cleaner environment reflects the harmony and well-being of the community.
